ARTIST STATEMENT

Born and raised in Taiwan, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Tamkang University. Following my graduation, I pursued further education at Kyoto Saga University of Arts in Japan as a special research student specializing in picture book illustration.

While creating to document my thinking patterns, it constructs the reflections of philosophical thinking.
I value the expression of innermost emotions while exploring the power of life which is the spirit of both ephemeral and eternal existence. I enjoy bringing imaginative stories into reality and integrating my own experiences into my work.  The relationship between animals, the environment, and humans is also a theme I often explore.

As an artist, I constantly encouraged and challenged myself to work with different mediums. I’m creating work with the mediums that I am well familiar with, including paintings, picture books, and felting. In 2022, I started working with ceramics and utilizing ceramics to create and sculpt my previous illustrations in order to enhance and extend my work. I learned the art of pottery in my hometown of Tamsui, Taiwan. Crafting with my hands using local materials, the earthen elements create a bond between me and the land.

I engage with philosophical approaches to conveyed and expressed my inner emotions in order to deliver tranquil atmosphere in my work, allowing the viewers to explore the power of life, the spirit of both ephemeral and eternal existences.

To me, the process of creation resembles an island, a sanctuary where I find harmony and inner peace. Through my works, I aspire to offer viewers a sense of tranquility that this island provides amidst the bustling world.
